The Framework

Seven Pillars of Whole-Life Wellness

"Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars."

Proverbs 9:1

Well by Design is built on a simple but profound idea: that true wellness isn't just physical. It's the whole person — body, mind, heart, and spirit — living in alignment with how we were designed. These seven pillars are the framework for that kind of wholeness.

Keep the Commandments

"Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye." — Proverbs 7:2

Wellness begins with alignment — living in step with the way we were designed to live. The commandments aren't a burden; they are a blueprint. When we order our lives around God's wisdom, we create the conditions for flourishing in every other area of health.

Matthew 7:24 — Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock.

Nourish

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Food is one of God's most tangible gifts — fuel, pleasure, and community all at once. This pillar explores how we nourish our bodies with intention, gratitude, and wisdom, honoring the temple we've been given without turning food into an idol or an enemy.

One should eat to live, not live to eat. — Benjamin Franklin

Move

"Life is movement." — Aristotle

Our bodies were made to move. Movement isn't punishment for what we ate or a transaction to earn rest — it's an act of stewardship and even worship. This pillar covers how to build a sustainable, joyful relationship with physical activity at every stage of life.

Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. — Albert Einstein

Rest

"You shall remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy." — Exodus 20:8

Rest is not laziness — it is obedience. God built rest into the rhythm of creation itself. This pillar explores the spiritual and physical dimensions of sleep, sabbath, and stillness, and why learning to rest well may be one of the most countercultural acts of faith we can practice.

Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. — Exodus 20:8

Guard the Heart & Mind

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." — Proverbs 4:23

What we allow into our minds shapes our emotions, decisions, and health. This pillar explores the deep connection between our thought life, our faith, and our whole-person wellbeing — including how we speak to ourselves, what we consume, and how we protect our inner world.

Stand guard at the portal of your mind. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Relationships

"The quality of your life is the quality of your relationships." — Tony Robbins

We were not made to do life alone. The quality of our relationships has a profound effect on our mental, emotional, and even physical health. This pillar looks at how to cultivate connections that are life-giving, set boundaries that are healthy, and love others well without losing ourselves.

How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity! — Psalm 133:1

Purpose

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." — Ecclesiastes 3:1

A life without purpose is a life without direction. When we understand that we are uniquely made and intentionally placed, it changes how we approach every day. This pillar explores how living from a sense of calling and meaning contributes to lasting wellness and deep joy.

The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. — Mark Twain
